Oops, my liberal arts education is showing again

Here's hoping my boss doesn't read my blog. Not that he couldn't have seen all this transpire today anyhow. Well maybe not the conversation with Wired, but the rest of it.

I've been sitting at my desk playing with little bits of rope, making decorative knots. You know nautical looking little things, but out of sort Easter teal colored nylon rope. I've lately found myself sort of obsessed with decorative knots.

So then I got to wondering if I could tie knots out of the cable in my garage. I have a few spools of home automation cable out there. Well anyhow, I was explaining to Wired that I was thinking about this goofy idea, tying knots out of cable. Then I said you know my life has a lot in common with that of the 18th or 19th Century sailor. Hours and days of near terminal boredom, regular maintenance and monotonous chores, punctuated with moments of sheer terror. Also no control over where I'm going or what I'm doing. It could be a sort of commentary piece.

About then Wired pops up and says "I think your liberal arts education is showing again."

Some days I am so stereotypical. I was all depressed and mopey.... so what fixed it? Ice cream, beer, and retail therapy. I just spent like $155 at Lands End. New jeans, two new shirts(striped no-iron blouses for work even) and 8, count them, 8 pairs of new wool socks. The socks were on clearance, so it's not all as bad as it seems. Ok.. maybe I did just spend $35 on socks. Oh well. I love wool socks. Mom has a few pairs and said they were the best socks ever.

Also I'm blocking a hat. We'll see how it looks come morning but the prototype felted tricorn hat looks ok so far. Well really it looks like an exercise in torture it has like 9 clothes pins holding the corners in place. Nope no pictures for you all. It's being saved for when www.knitlikeapirate.com goes live.

Well it's been busy here. Last weekend was the first AnimeIowa meeting for AI2006. Attendence wasn't too bad. Programming was as always the best represented department. Evan has some sort of cult of personality running over there, not that I'm complaining mind you. Our heroic webmistress got the AI website up too. See look here!.

I'm trying to get inspired to start the olympics knitting challenge but I don't think it'll happen. Instead I expect I'll just sit like a zombie and stare at the TV for the next two weeks.

New Nephew!

My newest nephew was born at 7:19AM today. Joshua David. I didn't check the spelling but I'll bet I got it right anyhow. 20" long, and I've forgotten the rest of the pertinant detals like weight. He sounds cute as he made his little baby sounds over the phone. My brother drove all night more or less from Ohio, back to Illiniois for the birth. Hooray!

I guess this solves the what am I knitting at Supercon issue, clearly it's something for the baby.
