This weekend I got a new camera. I've been thinking about it a long time. Bascally it came down to new shotgun or new camera. I have a shotgun. I didn't have a digital SLR. Film processing has gotten rather pricey to just shoot for no occasion, and really in the modern world people share photos online, which means either getting a negative scanner, or paying yet MORE for film processing, or buying a digital SLR. I got a Canon EOS Rebel XT. I'm very happy. The buttons are mostly all in the same places as on my A1 and AE1, and the modes of operation are like both my A1 and like my little cannon Powershot pocket camera. So I win! Yep. See me be a member of the Canon clan. I know some Nikon fans. They have nice equipment too. But see where my fingers already know how to work a Canon without thought.
I've been out shooting with my camera both days this weekend. Saturday I went to the fair. Sunday to the park. Tomorrow maybe the gun club, I'll try some action shots of people shooting clays or something.
Today's camera experiments were all about using Aperture Priority mode, and setting short depths of field and getting the camera to focus where I wanted it to without a lot of thinking. One has to practice these things if one wants smart fingers. I'm not sure I'm used to adjusting the F-stop with a roller under my right index finger yet. I still want to adjust it with the hand holding the lens.
Anyhow here is a link to my picasaweb page with the stuff I've been shooting. Sooner proabably rather than later I'll pull down all the junk and only post stuff that's actually sort of acceptably decent. In the mean time you can see the bulk of my experimentation.
